Socialist Resistance is unable to attend your conference this weekend, but send you our best wishes and encouragements in seeking to work together. We have much in common as revolutionaries and anti-capitalists. With the attacks across Europe on all the gains of the welfare state, we need to build together the broadest, the most united and democratic mass movement of resistance in each country and across the continent. We also need to recognise that revolutionaries and anti-capitalists are a minority in society today. But if we respect the diversity of the union and social movements, then we can play a decisive role in bringing together all those who want to resist into a coalition standing firm in opposition to all cuts and privatisation and refusing to make the working class pay for the cost of the crisis.
With the scale of the fight in front of us, it is worth remembering the words of the Communist Manifesto, published 150 ago: The Communists ……have no interests separate and apart from those of the proletariat as a whole. They do not set up any sectarian principles of their own, by which to shape and mould the proletarian movement. In the battles ahead, we need to work even more closely together to build the mass socialist working class party that is desperately needed today.
