This weekend the Revolutionary Socialist Party, one of the Australian organisations that Socialist Resistance co-operates with (another is the DSP), has its first major conference. Chris Brooks drafted these greetings on behalf of editors of Socialist Resistance.
The capitalist economic crisis has rapidly transformed politics in Europe, producing a substantial crisis for the mainstream parties and real challenges for the leadership of the trade unions. As the crisis as matured into a recession, the working class is remobilising – but is being torn in different directions.
The labour bureaucracy’s nationalist and protectionist policy is echoed on both the left and the right, meaning that socialists need to strongly propose international solutions to the crisis that use working class methods, mobilise workers and their allies, and which expand the space for socialist ideas.
The long-term struggle to give the working class an independent voice depends, now more than ever, on our work for the renewal of revolutionary organisations. Some revolutionary socialist parties in imperialist countries are retreating into opportunism, abstract propagandism, or both. In Britain our political perspective combines building organisations like Respect, the Scottish Socialist party and No2EU which point the way towards new anti-capitalist alternatives in British politics.
At the same time, we reaffirm our solidarity and comradely collaboration with you in our common struggles against climate change, in defence of the Bolivarian Process in Latin America and for the building of revolutionary socialist parties.
