Dig deep to build Socialist Resistance

Support the Fourth International Youth Camp

This summer young socialists from across Europe will be heading to the Fourth International Youth Camp for a week of revolutionary ideas, discussion and debate.
Everywhere across Europe young people are at the sharp end of the global economic crisis. We’re the first generation to be worse off than our parents! High youth unemployment prevails, standing at 21% in the UK alone, and even if you do get a job it tends to be a temporary one. But young people across Europe are fighting back – we say no to ‘McJobs’, no to climate change, no to the system that places profit before people!
The wave of protest led by the youth in Spain, and which is now moving into Portugal, with solidarity actions in many other places, demonstrates how important a role the youth can play in building the fightback, and there is no doubt that this will have a strong influence on the success of this year’s Youth Camp.
This will be the 28th Annual Youth Camp organised by the Fourth International (a grouping of revolutionary organisations across the world). The camp is self-managed with everything organised by those attending. There will be forums, meetings and workshops focusing on the Arab revolutions, Marxism and ecology, Feminism, LGBT liberation and much more.
Socialist Resistance has launched a £2000 fund drive to ensure that we can support what is looking set to be our best delegation to the youth camp in many years. Our upbeat conference in April recognised the importance of attracting and recruiting youth to the organisation – attendance at the FI youth camp can often be a key link in this chain.
It will cost around £260 for each young person to spend a week in this wonderful environment – and more if people also have to travel to London first. We are asking participants to pay £130 themselves – a big commitment if you have a large student loan and a Mcjob – and more if they can afford it.
So we are asking those who are interesting in helping us with this to dig into their wallets and cheque books and make a donation to make sure this happens. Any support however small will be gratefully received.

Support the IIRE School in Manila

One of the big successes of the Fourth International in recent years has been the real growth of our organisations in Asia. This has resulted in the opening of two branches of the Institute for Research and Education in the continent, one in Islamabad in Pakistan and one in Manila in the Philippines. The third Global Justice School will take place at the IIRE in Manila in July and August this year – and a growing number of organisations and individuals across the region look set to participate.
Socialist Resistance has been asked to sponsor a comrade from Sri Lanka to attend the school. This will cost in the region of £700 so again we are asking comrades to make a contribution to that cost. As before send cheques or make bank transfers – you can make one payment for both causes but please make it clear how you want your donation split.
