Our sincere condolences to Joan, Greg's family and friends and comrades in the RMT. It was great to see the video clips from the funeral - a magnificient tribute and nothing less than Greg deserved. I first met Greg when I went to work at the newly created Lambeth Trade Union Resource Centre and Unemployed Workers Centre in 1986. Greg, as chair of Lambeth's Economic Development Committee, was also chair of the management committee of the centre and therfore my boss though as unlikely a boss as you are ever likely to meet! I liked him immediately and grew to respect the work he did on the council, in the Lambeth Trades council, the rail union and wider trade union movement and the local community. Over the years I've continued to see Greg on rallies and demonstrations and his continous committment and energy was awe inspiring. Greg was a great man and he will leave a big space. It was also a useful reminder that no matter how rubbish things may get sometimes on the left, that the hard work of carrying the flame of socialism does make a difference in the lives of workers and makes one's life very much worthwhile.
