On 14 October nine prominent Catalan political figures were sentenced to over 100 years in jail for organising a referendum on self determination on 1 October 2017. They are guilty of nothing more than organising a vote that was violently suppressed by the Spanish State.

Hold the referendum before an election

The danger of a general election first is that it could be so dominated by Brexit that there would be no guarantee that Labour’s radical manifesto would cut through because Brexit would have an even higher profile.
