National demo & EDM oppose Post Office privatisation

Over 160 MPs that have signed the Early Day Motion (EDM) on Post Office privatisation. Mandelson seems to be feeling the heat. This is a crucial struggle that Mandelson and the most reactionary elements in the Labour Party want to win. If he is forced to do a u-turn, it may lead to him having to resign again and that will help workers prevent further privatisations of public services.

A successful struggle to defend public ownership of the post means the Government may begin to recognise that keeping banks privatised does them no favours with the electorate.

It seems more MPs are coming under pressure to sign the EDM. There will also be increasing rumblings at the base of the LP because of a possible split by the CWU from the LP on the issue. Thus trade unionists and socialists should be featuring this struggle prominently in their work and encouraging activists to campaign on the issue.

There is a national demonstration at 11.30 am Saturday 14th March in Bilston organised by the CWU which our comrades will be supporting; stop by and visit the SR stall at the event.
